Postpartum Bath Blend
Comfrey, lavender, oatstraw, shepherd’s purse, uva ursi, and yarrow
An herbal blend for baths to promote relaxation and healing, reduce vaginal swelling and soreness, and help to prevent hemorrhoids and infection.
Each herb in our Postpartum Bath Blend is carefully selected to support the postpartum healing process.
Comfrey (Symphytum officinale) is aptly nicknamed “knit bone.” Comfrey contain allantoin, a natural compound known for promoting cell reproduction and tissue repair. Comfrey also reduces inflammation.
Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) promotes relaxation and skin regeneration while also boasting antibacterial properties.
Oatstraw (Avena sativa) is a demulcent herb and can soothe dry, flaky, irritated, and/or itchy skin. It also has anti inflammatory properties that can reduce soreness and swelling.
Yarrow (Achillea millefolium) and shepherd’s purse (Capsella bursa-pastoris) both support the healing process by improving blood circulation.
Uva ursi (Arctostaphylos uva-ursi) is well known for its antibacterial, antiseptic, and astringent properties. Uva ursi aids in the healing of the perineal area and helps to prevent infection.
Each bag contains enough for four baths, though herbs can be refrigerated for reuse.
Heat 8 cups fresh water to a roaring boil, then allow it to cool slightly before pouring over the tea. Steep 8tbsp of herbal blend for up to 20 minutes. Strain and reserve 1 cup of herbal blend. Pour remaining into a warm bath. Later, reheat the reserved herbal blend and use it to soak a clean cloth. Use the cloth as a perineum compress for up to 20 minutes.
